This is the true story... of four survivors... picked to go on an op... working together to survive... finding out what happens... when things go wrong... the dead start to walk... and shit gets real...

The characters, in no particular order of importance, are Max, Troy, JP, and Diablos and it is told from my perspective and since I'm telling the story first everything I say is correct and anybody that implies differently is full of crap unless it makes me look good. Smile

****

The day started off with me waking up in camp and taking a quick inventory of our materials. As I sorted through our stocks I could hear some chatter from the others as they scavenged in different cities. JP and Diablos were driving a vehicle around an eastern portion of the Chernarus gathering supplies, I was nowhere near them so I wasn't about to get involved or interrupt.

I needed something to do while I waited for them to get back, a couple of tree stands were nearby and we were low on critical supplies that are sometimes found out there so I grabbed our bicycle and got to work.

Just as I got off the bike and started picking off Walkers my com came to life... Max was holed up in the Electro fire station with a pack full of weapons, low on blood, and a lot of Z's on him. JP and Diablos weren't available to assist so I packed up and headed back to camp to collect a motorcycle and then to collect Max.

12 km to ride through zombie and bandit infested ruins into one of the busiest cities in Chernarus... Max is worth it... these weapons are worth it... hope I don't lose this motorcycle....

My ride down was plagued with walkers even though I did my best to avoid them by traveling in the fields well outside of town... I could almost feel the bandit scopes on me as I rode the only thing with a (loud) working motor for a hundred square kilometers... I hit the roads when i could to put space between me and whatever fresh hell I had just skirted around... Despite all the side tracking I probably averaged about 60 km/h on the way down, took about 15 minutes. This motorcycle is going to be Max's salvation and someday mine, I decided right then I'd kill a man to defend it.

As I road into Electro I took a couple of minutes to hide the 'cycle, and scoped out the town from high ground. The constant gunfire from the city was a surprise, I didn't think that many of us were left. Were they fighting for their lives or fighting with each other over a few cans of beans and something sterile to drink? This was going to be more dangerous than I had bargained for, I considered turning back, saving the 'cycle and myself. All I would have to do is turn off the com and ride away, Max wouldn't last... I had to shake myself out of that thought and focus on the fire station. Max was my friend, I'd watched him play guitar at to many shows to just leave him to die...

That selfish thought almost cost me everything. Just so you know, Electro has two fire stations. If I'd taken a little more time to verify Max's position things would have been safer. Instead of getting in and getting out I spent a lot of time crawling through zombie infested fields and back tracking multiple times only to reach a fire station covered in barbed wire, tank traps, and NO Max. Wasted trip, wasted time, unneeded danger. I laughed to myself, I deserved that.

Crawling back through the field to the correct station (near the power plant) took more time than I wanted. I was concerned about the motorcycle and I was more concerned I'd catch a bullet from one of the survivors Max had spotted. I almost smiled when I thought about the survivor Max had taken care of as I pushed my face in the dirt and tried not to shake as a well fed Z shambled across my path. Maybe the others got spooked?

Finally getting to Max I grabbed up the extra loot (a shotgun), gave him a blood transfusion, and got the hell out of dodge... It looked like we had our glitch when I went to the wrong fire station, should be smooth sailing back...

In truth our trip back was relatively uneventful, I was almost getting complacent when just North of Novy Sobor I noticed an odd grey shape in the middle of a field where nothing should be... Max and I weighed our options in a brief discussion and decided to approach on the 'cycle. As we got closer it resolved itself into a nice grey UAZ just sitting there... Max hopped off the bike as I road around to avoid potential sniper fire and he checked out the status... Engine, solid. Wheels, fair. Windows, hardly cracked at all. Fuel, OUT.

What a prize! Had the survivors run out of gas and ditched the car? That seemed unlikely. Inside the car I saw some relatively fresh blood on the seat, steering whee, and the door. There were some footsteps that lead of to the east. The truth revealed itself in the form of that familiar gait... I didn't need binoculars to see he was missing a large percentage of his face and everything below his left elbow. How he drove it anywhere like that I'll never know, at least he left the keys.

We used the Jerry can from the bike to refill the car and Max made a quick getaway through Novy Sobor, across to Stary Sobor and then he ran into some trouble. Unfortunately a long term diet of Franks & Beans, Sardines, and Soda accompanied by a rough ride in a car is not conducive to your mental or physical health. The poor diet coupled with ride in the vehicle was giving Max a little trouble with his stomach and he found himself short a tire as he he collided with a barricade in the center of Novy Sobor! As he came to he made a quick exit on foot to the South and we made a call in for reinforcements; thankfully Diablos and JP were at the ready at camp and they made their way down on the ATV with a new tire.

Max and I positioned ourselves on the Motorcycle in an open shed with a good view of the car while we waited, I let Max know you could hardly tell that he shit on himself. Strangely, he was not amused.

When they arrived the repair went quickly, and I hopped in to drive, Max hopped in the back, JP took the bike, and Diablos took the ATV. On our way once again, we made good time through Novy Sobor and up into Kabino. This time it was my turn for the beans and soda to give me trouble as I also experienced some stomach issues... when I looked up it was to late to stop and I hit another barricade and that damn wheel rolled down the street, never to be seen again. Max stumbled out of the vehicle and passed out... In my delirium I staggered down the street and passed out as well... as the world slowly went dark I couldn't help but wonder if I was going to end up in the belly of a Walker before I woke up.

Max and I lay there for what seemed like forever until Diablos and JP returned with yet another tire... how we survived I'll never know, somebody was looking out for me... or maybe we looked and smelled dead enough that the Walker's weren't interested, probably a little of both.

As they pulled up with the bike and a horde of zombies something went wrong with Diablos and he crashed into a wall before taking a nasty tumble. His body went flying past me and vanished in the rubble down the street. We huddled silently in the ruins waiting for the Z's to move on, hoping our friend was alive, not knowing if the Z's had got him,I couldn't hear any screaming. Probably best that he was out cold, maybe he went quick in the crash, maybe later I'd be putting a bullet in him as he staggered up to me with lifeless eyes and an endless hunger.

As the Z's cleared out Max and JP got the tire on and I took a quick look down the street for Diablos. No sign of him; no blood, no struggle, more Z's than I can count... he was gone.

The ride back was pretty quiet. Fortunately my voided stomach didn't act up and we made good time. I couldn't believe how lucky we had been. A second car for the group was going to make a big difference. We lost a comrade but this car would help us bring in others and keep ourselves supplied.

I've lost so many since the dead rose I was used to it. I was even getting used to putting them down when our paths crossed again... I wasn't used to them surviving... As the com cracked to life Max and I exchanged a confused look and then we heard Diablos say, "Where in the fuck did you guys go?"

I suspect there were additional expletives in there but I'll never know, the cheers in that car could have woken the dead...

Sick story, Troy! A great read. I didn't realize we got another car- that's awesome!

I let Max know you could hardly tell that he shit on himself. Strangely, he was not amused.

Hilarious. Simply hilarious.

Agreed. Bravo, Author! I'm an avid fan of the zombie genre both in written and digital format. This is as good as the stuff I've been reading on my Kindle. I can't wait to hear more tales from our adventures in LA 3 DayZ.

Very nice story, the only thing I think you left out was that the all of the shooting you heard was actually coming from me and when you found me i was surrounded by a heaping pile of dead zedheads lmao.

I really enjoyed that read...nice job.
